Default NEW: All Girl Gamer Event - Girl Power Hour

Attention girl gamers! You're invited!

Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, girls do, in fact, exist on the internet, and play games - including Guild Wars. It does still seem to be hard for folks to accept, and sometimes it can be tiresome being the only girl on the team with seven guys, some of whom don't even believe that actual girls play this game.

To celebrate girl gamers and create a space for us just to have a good time playing together, Girl Power guild is sponsoring a weekly all girl gamer event, "Girl Power Hour!" The first one will be held this Sunday, February 25th.

Much like the weekly all-mesmer or all-beastmaster Zoo Crew events that you may have heard of, Girl Power Hour will meet at a set place and time each weekend. From there, we'll form up teams and head out to do something fun together - Clear Tomb of Primeval Kings? Sorrows Furnace quests? Domain of Anguish questing? The Deep? Urgoz? Fissure of Woe? Underworld? Get Master's reward for missions on the upcoming "hard mode?" All of those and more, eventually.

Our first event will be to find Galrath, and put an end to his villainy. We will meet in what will be our meeting place every weekend, the Temple of the Ages, International District 1, at what will be our meeting time every weekend, 1:00 PM Eastern Time (10:00 AM Pacific, 6:00 PM GMT). Girls only, please. Of course, there's no way to check the player behind the avatar, but boys discovered hiding behind female characters will be mocked mercilessly.

What: Girl Power Hour - Girls Pwning Galrath

Where: Temple of the Ages, International District 1

When: Sunday, February 25, 1:00 PM Eastern, 10:00 AM Pacific, 6:00 PM GMT

Who: Girl Gamers

Why: Because girls kick butt!

Interesting Event. But I know many in our guild that would beg to differ. We have a good handfull of women in our guild and are very solid players.

But I think many more would play or let people know they are girls if some of the less mature guys would just treat them with respect and just as another gamer.

Not at all.

My guild members treat me with as much respect as I deserve, but not all women/girl gamers have the luxury of a supportive and/or mature guild. I’d wager that many female gamers choose the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy whilst gaming.

This event would probably be very liberating, as well as confidence-inspiring to know how many other females are playing. That’s it, not a “girls are better than boys” thread, more like a solidarity thread.

Although I probably won’t participate, I applaud your efforts, OP!

As a girl... I just have to say that this it's like really nonsense.. If you really want to show some ownage to boys isn't with doing pve.. specially a newbie quest like that..
The only thing you could do though is pvp, like making a Heroes' Ascent team?
Anyways that is also useless because girls are as good as boys and there's nothing to be proved.

For PvP, Ventrilo and Teamspeak are dead giveaways , but in PvE, unless you also use voice communication, I have no idea.

Half the people at the event will be guys, lol. Still, it is a fun concept.

Can't, it's called the honor system.

Please point out where the OP says it's about being better then/showing ownage to "boys."

Any of you ever been in the Girl Scouts? It's like that.

To you as well, Galrath may be a newbie quest, but I remember my first time thru, it was a real challenge.

I think its a good idea, good for any women on the game who'd like to meet others and chat about whatever they do talk about.

I see no problem with this event, its not racist, nor is it discluding anyone, except 50% of the population...

No really, its perfectly fine, anyone who begs to differ can just make a girl character and join in, if they so choose.

The minority of players should be allowed to do this. Yes, its sexist but its not being in a rude way, anyone who has a problem with this has...really too much time on their hands.

Go on and do your event, I only posted because I saw people being rude and not understanding about it. I personally think its a great idea!

ALSO:

The Villany of Galrath can be done totally solo by a W/N... I know because I've done it. The only thing I have to suggest for this all girl-event would be to find something harder and funner, perhaps Sorrows Furnace?

Where did the OP ever mention that this is about proving something in relation to the other sex, or anything at all for that matter? It seems to me that you're putting words in her mouth.

This seems more about providing a chance for girls to game with other girls.

I agree with you.

Long while ago I did HA with a full team of girls (8ppl) and we did a girl-train in ID1. It was very fun fooling around =P

But yea, there's no need to show "girl gaming power" because we play just like everyone in GW: the good, the bad, the skilled, the unskilled, the leeroy, the uber-kiter...etc

I love this idea. A great opportunity to meet with other females, show some solidarity and game tips, and just have fun. Sundays are great for me and my friend, but 10 am? OMG, I'm not even conscious at that hour! lol Well, this will give me an incentive to drag my carcass out of bed before noon.

Sounds cool but I don't think many girls will show. I'm curious as to why you choose Villainy as the quest. All you need to beat it are some guildies and a decent skill set. I henched/heroed it, as I'd abandoned it two months before and moved on to other things, and it was no trouble at all. Also, why meet in Tyria? More people are in Elona. Why not meet at the Chantry of Secrets?

of course there are many girl guild wars players....but probably the majority of the people participating in this "girl power hour" will probably be guys because guys are just weird like that o_O

Lol, I feel your pain Feminist. There is only one am on a Sunday, and that's the one where I'm dragging my partied out behind into my bed. Luckily for me I'm GMT so it's 6pm for me

I'm just hazarding a guess here, but methinks that the choice of quest is purely secondary to getting together and having a chat, meeting other girl gamers and swapping tips etc.

Finally Robin; thanks for the link to the Escapist article; it really put a smile on my face.

Voice communication makes guild wars a lot more fun, especially for the easy areas. It will also make it hard for guys to sneak in to your events.

Ok have fun. Just be warned that a "all female event" may attract some "unwanted pests" if you know what I mean.

Wow... I'm truly, honestly stunned at how such a simple idea brought out the worst in so many people.

Boys are touchy. ^_^

And, by the way, to any guys out there that think they can fool a girl into thinking they're a girl... HAHA! Guys only fool other guys, trust me.

Anyway, I hope you have lots of fun! (And I hope everyone's awake. That IS pretty early. ^_^)
